Fine Arts Seminar

Introduction

The Fine Arts Seminar of the University of Alcalá was founded in the school year 2003-2004 by the Vicerector's Office in Cultural and University Extracurricular Activities to attend an existent demand in the university community and a broad public that, although not directly linked to the institution, seeks their personal development through a creative activity in different areas of the Fine Arts. Through education, research and critic, the Seminar tries to support and promote the relationship of the University of Alcalá with other academic, cultural and scientific institutions both national and international. Cristina Moral Turiel, Ph. D. in Fine Arts by the University Complutense of Madrid and professor in the University of Alcalá, directs the Seminar from its establishment. Her most direct collaborators are Ph. D. Emilio Barnechea and Ph. D. Dolores Fernández, both professors of the Fine Arts School of the University Complutense of Madrid, and the painter Pepa Burillo. Artists Antonio López, Matías Quetglas, Gómez Molina, Agustín Úbeda, Manuel Parralo, Valentín Sama, Cataldo Serafín, Carlos de Gredos and Agustín de Celis are some of the main names that collaborate with the Seminar.

Objectives

To support and promote teaching in Fine Arts through education, research and critic. We also intend to support and promote the relationship of the different fields, departments and centres of the University itself, as well as the relationship with academic, cultural and scientific institutions both in our country and abroad. The Fine Arts Seminar of the University of Alcalá was created in 2003 with different activities linked to the field of Plastic Arts in the programme.

Conferences

Conferences and debates are organised as cultural activities about Fine Arts, as well as exhibitions (set-up, critic, etc.) addressed to the general public. The entrance is free and they are normally held in the Rector's Office halls.

Courses

Monographic courses of varied duration are programmed. These courses are addressed to painters and university students who wish to complete their artistic training. There are also courses for beginners addressed to people interested in the arts but with no previous experience.

The methodology used depends on each activity, but in general is theoretical-practical, giving priority to scientific contents, with emphasis on background, evolution and current development, and focusing the activities on research and experimentation.

Interventions and performances

With the aim of bringing the avant-garde artistic tendencies closer to the public, a series of performances by contemporary artists of great renown are held throughout the school year.

Summer courses

The person responsible for the Seminar offers summer courses since 1995, both in the Alcalá and the Guadalajara Campuses. These courses are held in July.
